Overview
The main purpose of PokerProfiler is Heads-Up Display (HUD) - key attributes of each player available right at the poker table, and updated after the completion of each hand. Each HUD is expandable at the click of the mouse in order to show additional statistics and these are completely configurable (see screen shots).
In addition to the HUD functionality, the main screen (which can be minimized to your system tray to stay out of the way), provides search capability and access to the full compliment of statistics for any player, and these can be broken down by a combination of criteria such as Cash or Tournament, No limit or Fixed, and several others.
During the course of a cash session or tournament, PokerProfiler will very quickly be able to give you an indication of opponents' traits. These, of course, become more accurate over time, and as PokerProfiler builds up its database from the games you play, you will find more PokerProfiler will more frequently have information available for players when you begin play at a new table.
PokerProfiler is fast and efficient, never bogging down your system's performance, and can handle any number of simultaneous tables. It allows you to concentrate on the game.
Currently, PokerProfiler handles Hold'em games at PokerStars. Other sites are in the works.
HUD Behavior
PokerProfiler works purely from the hand histories produced by the poker software (and so this feature must be turned on - see Installation). This dictates certain behavours, and this may differ depending on the poker site. The following description currently applies to PokerStars.
When you begin play at a new table, HUDs will not appear until after completion of a hand you have been dealt into as this is the only time a hand history is produced.
If you sit out at a cash table, hand histories are not produced, and so no statistics can be captured. When you resume play, you will again have to wait until you have been dealt into and have completed a hand before a hand history will be produced and HUDs appear.
At tournament tables, you can sit out and histories will continue to be produced. This is because even while sitting out at a tournment, your cards continue to be dealt and you still pay blinds and antes.
When a new player sits at a table, a HUD will appear for that player only after he or she has been dealt in a hand and it has been completed.
When a player leaves a table, the HUD will continue to display until completion of the first hand that does not include that player. It will then dissappear (or if a new player has already sat down and been dealt in, it will refresh for that player).
In a tournament it is common to be moved from one table to another. When this happens, all HUDs will dissappear within a few moments, and then reappear for the new set of players after the completion of a hand you have been dealt into.
Using the HUD
The HUD is designed to be very compact in its default "iconic" form so that it doesn't get in the way. This also means it does not need to be transparent and is therefore very clear and easy to read. If you find the size of the text to be too small or bigger than you need, you can adjust the size in the Options tab of the Preferences page of the main screen.
The default positions of the HUDs are based on the default table theme for the site. Separate positioning is kept for each possible seating layout from heads-up to 10 seats. You are free to change the position simply by using normal Windows click and drag - click and hold with the left mouse button and drag to wherever you wish to place it, then release the mouse button. PokerProfiler will remember any positions you set and, if you have more than one poker table open, will automatically adjust the corresponding HUDs on the other tables as well. This allows you to use any available seating theme for your table and place the HUDs according to your preferences.
In the iconic form, the HUD shows you six key indicators for each player. For compactness, only the numbers are shown. To see what each number represents, you can double-click anywhere over that number to produce a tip. The tip will disappear after a few seconds. By default, each of the six indicators uses color coding from red to green to indicate potential danger. These colors can be changed to any that may be more preferable to you via the Options tab of the Preferences page of the main screen.
The HUD provides "drill-down". Simply by right-clicking on a HUD, it will expand to display additional statistics. A default set of statistics has been set for you, but these are completely configurable by you on the Statistics tab of the Preferences page. To close an expanded HUD, simply right-click again. The text size of the expanded HUD is controlled with the same setting as mentioned above for the text size of the iconic form.
While the HUD is expanded, you can click either the Details button or the player's name and it will display full statistics for that player on the main PokerProfiler screen (if the main screen is minimized, it will be restored for you).
Seating Preference
PokerProfiler supports seating preferences. For instance, in PokerStars, you can set a preferred seat for every seating layout. PokerProfiler is able to read this information when it starts up and arrange the HUDs correctly if you have set these for any layout.
In addition to this, some sites such as PokerStars allow you to right-click on any seat and choose "Sit Here". Currently, PokerProfiler is unable to detect when this option has been used. In order to allow it, PokerProfiler mirrors the same option. When you expand a HUD, there is a Sit Here button. If you have used the poker table's Sit Here feature, then do the same in PokerProfiler in order to allow it to synchronize itself with the new player positions on the table.
PokerProfiler only displays HUDs for occupied seats. If it so happens you have used the poker table's Sit Here feature to move to a seat that was previously unoccupied, there will not currently be a HUD in that position. In this case you will need to select Sit Here in another HUD first in order (and until) that causes a HUD to appear in your new seat position. You can then select Sit Here in that HUD and all HUDS will once again be synchronized.
HUD Preferences
On the PokerProfiler main screen, click the Preferences tab and then the Options tab. You will see a screen like the following:
Most of the settings on this page are for the HUD.
The size and font of the text for the HUD is controlled by HUD Font. The background color of the expanded HUD can also be changed from its default black if desired (for all color selections, just click on the color to change it).
Next are 5 color settings. These are the colors used in the HUD when in iconic form to provide context to each of the six indicators. For example, by default, bright red is used to indicate very tight and very aggressive indications.
You can change these to your own preferences.
Below the colors are sets of thresholds. These thresholds are used to determine which of the five colors to use for an indicator.
The first set is for tight/loose indications. The second set controls the aggressive/passive indicators. While we believe the default settings are optimal, you are free to change these.
The Win% indicator also uses these colors, but needs not thresholds.
For new players, the HUD shows no colors, all indicators display gray. Colors show only after a minimum number of games have been completed by a player. By default this is 10, but you can change this to more or less.
Finally, you set the HUD to display indications for only games since a specified month and year.If you import hand histories dating back before the default date, you may want to adjust this.
